Question. What big loan? And for what was it used for?

Ness begins to leave and Pokey's mom tries to apologize for what Pokey's dad had said when she swatted Buzz Buzz thinking it was a dung beetle. Nearly at the end of his rope, Buzz Buzz tells Ness about the eight Your Sanctuaries and one was located in Onett called Giant Step. It also gives Ness a Sound Stone and how to record the eight melodies.

How did the Your Sanctuaries come into existence? Why were they scattered over the world? How did a fly carry a stone? What had happened to the eight Your Sanctuaries in the future?

Ness heads for the suburbs of Onett wielding a cracked bat and wearing a baseball cap. Along the way, he stops by the local library. There the librarian gives Ness a town map and explains how to use it.

Okay, so why does a public libary lend out only maps? Why is this only one of two or three places that has washrooms?

Continuing on, Ness heads for the downtown arcade, inhabited by a gang known as the Sharks. Battling his way through Skateboard Punks and Yesman Jrs., Ness finally reaches the gang leader, Franky. Franky is brandishing two knives, swearing (sort of,) and has a large fighting robot, Frankystein Mark II, to deal with you if he loses. After kicking his butt, Franky becomes all Nice and tries to help you out.

Why in the game of EarthBound is a person trying to stab Ness? Isn't this game rated for all audiences? How could have (ahem,) Franky built a robot or anyone else in the Sharks gang for that matter? Why is Ness so uh, friendly and forgivable?

Franky tells Ness about Mayor Pirkle holding the key to the shack in front of the entrance to Giant Step. He also says he would mend his ways and try to help out the community. Ness leaves and goes to town hall for a meeting with the mayor. Ness recieves the key after promising to the mayor that Pirkle would not be taking and responsibility for what would happen.

Why did the citizens of Onett elect Pirkle as mayor anyway?

Trudging north to the shack, Ness unlocks the door and enters. Behind it, Ness discovers the entrance to the first Your Sanctuary puzzle/maze. The cave is haunted with rats and ants and Ness is pooped out trying to squish the slugs. In the final part of the cave, Titanic Ant waits for Ness to challenge it. Ness stomps Titanic Ant and wins. He then sees Giant Step to the outside and hears a familiar melody. Ness notices that the Sound Stone is glowing.
